What is BENEFIC?
BENEFIC stands for 'BrussEls NEtherlands Flanders Implementation of Clean power for transport' and literally means 'doing or promoting something good'. The main objective of this project is to accelerate the construction of infrastructure for environmentally friendly vehicles and vessels. The lack of sufficient refuelling and charging infrastructure is still experienced as a barrier to choosing an environmentally friendly vehicle. The Brussels-Capital Region, the Dutch national government and the Flemish government want to support the rollout of such infrastructure with European funds. In concrete terms, this involves the following infrastructure for alternative fuels and energy carriers: electric charging stations for normal and (super) fast charging, LNG-CNG refuelling points, hydrogen refuelling infrastructure and shore-based power installations for inland navigation.
What is CEF?
Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is a key EU funding instrument to promote growth, jobs and competitiveness through targeted infrastructure investments at European level. It supports the development of high-performing, sustainable and efficiently interconnected trans-European networks in the fields of transport, energy and digital services. CEF investments act as links in Europe's energy, transport and digital backbone.
CEF for transport is the financing instrument to implement the European policy for transport infrastructure. It aims to support investments in building new transport infrastructure in Europe or in repairing and upgrading existing infrastructure.
